As a user who runs an ad blocker by default, I find it unbearable when I have to use another computer without blocking built in - it feels like making a conscience choice to obfuscate your life! I think that until websites start toning down their ads (until Google's DFP gives websites enough control to tone down their ads), people like me will always turn to ad-block, or move away from desktop browsing towards mobile apps where ads are almost always better considered. The one website I know doing an ok job is the Guardian - they detect ad-block users and politely ask that they either subscribe or accept their generally unobtrusive ads. It's now the only website that I allow ads on.
