Engagement: An interesting notion.

Especially given that Facebook, the prophets of Engagement are now claiming that there is little direct connection between Engagenment and sales in the short term (but there may be in the long term...)Accordin to Facebook, moving the needle on sales is all about Reach!and since this "revelation" is comming from Facebook, Advertisers are lining up behind this notion. One that was asserted by professionals in this industry before all things became digital. We seem to be relearning what we know, that truth can only be seen through the lens of digital and espoused by a digital guru.

Reach is the objective and all touchpoints contribute to this. For mass brands, TV is a key, even major contributor to this.

Saw these guys a couple of months ago and think they have a very interesting product. I think the rules of engagement in the mobile world will be based around permission, transparency and trust and this goes in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see sign-up rates.
Incidentally, the word that seems best associated with engagement is relevance - certainly that's what the neuroscientists believe - but relevance can as easily come from creativity and context (including the method of delivery) as it does from the actual content itself.
Just sayin'...
